Japanese Bullet Train Shinkansen しんかんせん

The high speed train is called 新幹線(しんかんせん)Shinkansen in Japanese and is  known as “bullet train” in English.

The Japanese Shinkansen is actually the oldest and safest high-speed train in the world. It can run at speeds of up to 250 miles per hour.

The word Shinkansen is made up of three characters; 新 (shin) meaning ‘new’, 幹 (kan), meaning ‘trunk’, and 線 (sen), meaning ‘line’.

Japanese Shinkansen bullet trainThe shinkansen makes very few stops. It has comfortable seats and is fun to ride on. You can buy snacks, alcohol and lunch boxes on the Shinkansen bullet train as well.

Many people prefer to take the shinkansen when travelling long distances because it can be more convenient than going travelling by plane.
